Complete Description of the Job.
   Purpose: • Promotes the Leonard Core Values by setting an example and communicating the Core Values effectively to others. Ensure others are following and supporting the Leonard Core Values. • Plans, directs, and evaluates the operation of all functions of parts and service at Leonard Bus. • Plans, formulates, and implements operational strategies for all Leonard Bus locations. • Provides expert assistance in the planning and long range business decision making for managing the Leonard Bus locations. • Develop and implement organizational operations policies and procedures across all Leonard Bus locations. • Defines and recommends objectives in each area of Operations. Develops specific short and long term goals, plans, and programs that align with and support the organizational values, goals and objectives. • Serves as a strategic partner with senior management; provides leadership with respect to all matters concerning operations of the organization. • Work in this class is distinguished from other classes by its emphasis on administration and coordination of the Operations of Leonard Bus. Responsibility is broad in scope, requiring strategic vision and thinking allowing for a high degree of policy, project and administrative discretion, and is evaluated in terms of overall results and effectiveness of the organization’s operations. Planning • Plans, organizes, administers, directs, and reviews activities of the operations of all facilities. • Develops operational policies and procedures; oversees the development of processes and procedures to implement, monitor and enforce them. Resolves disputes concerning application or interpretation of policies and procedures. • Works closely with other executives to develop and carry out major plans, coordinate operations of all locations to complement companywide goals, and ensure that operations are being executed in accordance with policies. Strategic Objectives • Responsible for the company’s strategic operating activities, including revenue and sales growth; expense, cost and margin control; and monthly, quarterly and annual financial goal management. • Researches and recommends innovative and strategic system and process changes to improve efficiency and responsiveness to operational processes, practices and services. • Demonstrate successful execution of business strategies for company products and services. • Direct and participate in acquisition and growth activities to support overall business objectives and plans. • Prepares an annual strategic operating plan for Fixed Operations Analysis • Prepares strategic analyses and recommendations regarding operational policy issues and long-range plans to address Leonard Bus’s operational infrastructure and needs. • Analyzes and provides strategic financial input on decision making issues effecting operations of all locations and developing strategies to help steer the company toward its goals. Maintains a constant review of financial results of all operations. • Analyzes various records and reports for the purpose of monitoring functions under charge and maintaining or improving efficiency of operations. Communication • Communicates with the Vice President and other senior team members by providing periodic and on-request reports and presentations. • Promotes cooperation and communication among all departments to foster unity of purpose. • Keeps team members informed as to company/operational plans and progress. Operational Objectives • Directs the workflow of service and parts activities to ensure efficient, safe, and economical utilization of team members, facilities, tools, components, and consumables, while ensuring customer satisfaction levels and company objectives are achieved. • Directs the operations function concurrent with, business growth, introduction of new operational systems, meeting operational financial objectives, and meeting operational goals in relation to safety, quality, and service. • Provides direction to operations areas through intradepartmental interface for efficient workflow. • Ensures that Leonard Bus complies with all government regulatory requirements • Builds and maintains customer relationships both internally and externally. • Provides strong customer leadership vision and example • Reviews and approves the implementation of operational plans that support the Operations Strategic Plan. • Creates intergroup best practices to accelerate profitable growth. • Makes recommendations on policies and pricing to improve operations. • Ensures inventory controls and financial measurements meet dealership guidelines. • Maintains award winning customer service and customers scoring reflects results. Staff Development Objectives • Continually develops staff to meet best practices and technical proficiency • Continually monitors key measurements for performance trends • Plans, organizes, directs, and evaluates performance of assigned staff, establishes performance requirements and personal development targets. • Regularly monitors performance and provides coaching for performance improvement and development of direct reports. • Identifies training needs, initiates development of team members, and recommends effective personnel action. • Provides training for team members and ensures the authority and responsibility for each position are defined and understood. Management Objectives • Provides leadership and works with a large group of diverse, multi-disciplined team members to ensure a high performance, service oriented work environment that supports achieving the operational and organizational objectives and service expectations. • Establishes objectives and procedures governing the performance of assigned activities. Issues specific annual objectives to immediate team members and reviews objectives of the Operations management. • Selects and maintains qualified personnel in all positions reporting directly to the Fixed Operations Director. • Ensures duties, responsibilities, authority, and accountability of all direct team members are defined and understood. • Recommends promotion, discharge, and other appropriate personnel actions. • Conducts timely performance evaluations with employees. • Takes corrective action when problems, performance and/or other issues develop with employees. Additional Duties: • Creates a productive department through written and verbal communication. • Projects a positive image to peers, team members, customers, the industry, and the community. • Maintains appropriate communications within area of responsibility. • Responds under emergency conditions. • May be responsible for enforcing the drug free workplace policy, based on location and organizational structure. • Performs other related duties, as assigned. Minimum Requirements: • Bachelor’s degree in business, management or relate field. • Ten (10) years’ experience in operations management, including five (5) years management in an executive level position, such as general manager or vice president, or an equivalent combination of training and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. • Progressively responsible administrative, management and operations management experience. • Diversified background with strong technical, business, and managerial skills. • Proven ability to train and motivate team members in order to balance team members’ strengths with profitability and growth. • Financial management experience including budgeting, cost estimates, and life cycle cost analysis. • Demonstrated high level knowledge of personal computers and related departmental software. • Business Acumen • Demonstrated understanding of profit and loss, strategic direction, and efficient operations. • Demonstrated management and financial skills in dealing with all phases of business operations. • Experience in a dealership environment as a Parts and/or Service Director or Fixed Operations Director. Certifications or Licenses: • Valid New York driver’s license or driver’s license in state of residence required. Notes: • Will be required to attend meetings, trade shows, conferences, etc., outside of normal business hours. • Frequent travel to all Leonard Bus locations is required. • This job is performed in an office environment and requires employee to sit for prolonged periods and regularly use hands to finger, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. • Employee is regularly required to walk, talk or hear. • Must be able to occasionally climb, balance, stoop, kneel or crouch. • Vision abilities include close vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. • Must be able to regularly lift or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move 50 pounds. Selection and Performance Factors: • Knowledge of principles, theories, methods, and practices of effective management and operations. • Ability to define operational development issues and problems, research and analyze data, evaluate alternatives and develop sound, independent, expert conclusions and recommendations in accordance with laws, regulations, rules and policies. • Proficiency in effectively leading a self-directed work team. • Skill to plan, assign, delegate and direct work of administrative and subordinate team members. • Working knowledge and experience of budget procedures, particularly in regards to company operations. • Competence in understanding, interpreting, explaining and applying local, state, and federal policy, law, and regulations applicable to areas of responsibility. • Aptitude to prepare proposals and recommendations clearly, logically and persuasively in public and meetings. • Knowledge of research methods and analysis techniques. • Ability to analyze and make sound recommendations on complex management and operational issues. • Understanding, interpreting, explaining and applying Operational policies and procedures. • Experience in developing and implementing appropriate procedures and controls. • Competence in applying principles and practices of sound business communications, effective management and supervision techniques and communicating to a diverse workforce and community. • Awareness to exercise sound expert independent judgment within policy guidelines. • Able to exercise seasoned management and political acumen, tact and diplomacy in dealing with complex, sensitive and confidential issues regarding multiple and conflicting agendas and positions. • Expertise in establishing and maintaining highly effective working relationships with senior management, managers, team members, vendors, customers, business and community representatives and others encountered in the course of work. • Solid working knowledge of budgeting, sales, business development, and strategic planning. • Ability to generate respect and trust from staff and external customers. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job function satisfactorily. The minimum qualifications, selection factors, and physical abilities are required to perform the essential functions of this position.
