   The English as a Second Language Coordinator will be responsible for all ESL activities, including classes and individual tutoring sessions for the Latino Community Advocacy Program, which works specifically with low-income Spanish- speaking immigrants in the Greater Saratoga County Region. The coordinator will be expected to further the development of the present curriculum, evaluation and teaching resources. Classes are organized into small groups according to skill level and instruction is provided by both the volunteer tutors and the ESL Coordinator. Primary duties of this position are the development and administration of the program, volunteer recruitment and supervision. RESPONSIBILITIES • Organizing and oversee the SCEOC’s English as a Second Language classes • Recruit, train and coordinate volunteer ESL instructors • Evaluate new student English skills and place them appropriately in instruction groups • Monitor student progress and administer Pre/Post Test Assessments • Maintain communication with volunteers and site coordinator regarding scheduling and space use • Provide resource support to volunteer ESL tutors • Timely submission and accumulation of all reporting data • Developing curriculum, evaluation tools, and teaching materials • Referring students with advocacy needs to the LCAP Coordinator or Advocate • Working with the LCAP coordinator to integrate resources/programming addressing advocacy needs with ESL classes • Facilitate the expansion of ESL classes to new sites • Assist in advocacy activities as needed. REQUIREMENTS • Bachelor’s Degree, ESL Certification a plus • Applicants with other educational backgrounds and 2 or more years of teaching experience will also be considered • Bilingual/ Bicultural - must have the ability to read, write, and communicate with high proficiency in both Spanish and English, as well as demonstrate an understanding of or ability to relate to Latino/Latin American cultures and heritage • Flexible schedule for non- traditional working hours • Above average organizational and communication skills • Ability to work independently • Ability to communicate effectively with people of diverse social and economic backgrounds • Must have a clean driver’s license BENEFITS – Vacation, Sick and Personal Time SCEOC is a private, nonprofit community action agency serving Saratoga County. We provide services coordinated at our main office as well and in the county schools. Services include Head Start, WIC, Energy Services/Weatherization, Crisis Intervention, Latino Community Advocacy, Vita Tax Services, Food Pantry, and a Soup Kitchen. EOE
