   PROGRAM: Hammond House JOB TITLE: Counselor I QUALIFICATIONS: • A High School Diploma and experience providing direct treatment services, assessment, advocacy and crisis management • Clearance with all relevant background checks as per TSA policies and governing regulations • A vehicle, valid NY State Driver's License and a driving record acceptable to the TSA automotive program are required • Proficient in MS Office Suite and able to learn new data platforms PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: • Familiarity with Trauma Informed Care • Experience working in a residential setting • Familiarity with New York State Office of Mental Health (OMH) regulations and guidelines • Experience working with individuals with co-occurring disorders PERSONAL REQUIREMENTS: • Be understanding of the needs of sensitive populations and demonstrate empathy • Have well-developed professional boundaries and high ethical standards • Demonstrate excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills • Possess strong crisis management and problem-solving skills • Have an ability to function as a member of team member and work independently SCOPE: Assisting in the operations of an 11 bed OMH licensed community residence with a focus on co-occurring disorders. The Counselor I reports to the Program Supervisor and Program Director. JOB DESCRIPTION: The Counselor I will have a broad range of duties including, but not limited to, the following: • Supervise the residents’ daily activities and service plans • Contribute to a safe and supportive therapeutic environment • Utilize techniques of therapeutic crisis intervention as needed • Adhere to and guide residents on all structural program expectations including house rules and daily routines • Function as positive role model for residents • Maintain appropriate boundaries with residents • Communicate effectively and professionally with residents, residents’ families, and collateral agencies • Document any and all significant events and fulfill all general record keeping responsibilities • Perform certain aspects of house maintenance, which may include housekeeping, heavy lifting and other physical exertion as required, grocery shopping, and ordering program supplies • Attend agency meetings, mandatory trainings and other activities including opportunities for professional development at the request of the Program Director or Agency • Organize and manage weekly recreational activities • Transport residents as needed • Additional duties as assigned by Program Director or Program Supervisor TSA offers a GENEROUS benefit package which includes: health, dental, life insurances, 403(b), vacation, sick and personal times....even your birthday off!
