   Part Time Prevention Educator
Complete Description of the Job.
   Part time position. Must be available for an average of 18 hours a week from 12:30-5 on Monday - Thursday and have transportation. Eligible candidates must be able to make a school year commitment.There may be a possibility of summer employment. Prevention Educator for Project Lift will plan and implement goal- oriented/positive youth develop activities and discussions for “at risk” children in grades 1-5. Project Lift provides a safe environment after school and offers prevention and skill building lessons. Other varied duties as assigned. Candidates must like children, have a positive attitude, be comfortable instructing groups of children, enthusiastic, patient, flexible, a team player, organized, and want to make a difference. Experience working with elementary students needed. Bachelor’s degree preferred. Project Lift operates with the Saratoga Springs City School District calendar and follows the elementary school schedule. Essential Job Functions: Plans and implements a comprehensive prevention program for children enrolled in Project Lift particularly around issues of drug and alcohol prevention Participates in on-going evaluation of youth programming and individual youth needs Maintains a creative physical setting that promotes positive social interaction and constructive behavior by directing children through discussions/activities that will help them grow in self- direction, self-esteem and building skills Assumes responsibility for the Children’s Program in absence of Site Supervisor Assists in communicating information regarding enrolled children’s status, problems or needs with the Family Outreach Educator Guards the health and safety of each child when participating in Project Lift Assumes responsibility for directing and guiding volunteers assigned to the group so as to best meet the special needs of youth involved Participates in staff planning sessions, in service training sessions, conferences and other aspects of professional growth Encourages family involvement in program activities and strives to keep communication lines open between participant family members and Project Lift Participates in public relations activities upon request Receives on-going supervision and evaluation by the Program Coordinator/Volunteer Coordinator Adheres to all Franklin Community Center and Project Lift policies and performs related tasks as required and maintains strict confidentiality All other duties deemed necessary Qualifications: Bachelor or Associate Degree and experience working with elementary school- aged children Ability to relate well to children and adults, especially those families of low socio-economic status Knowledge of child development, individual and group behavior and the effects of destructive social/environmental factors on families Evidence of emotional maturity, physical and emotional stability and good judgement to analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action
