   JOB TITLE: Relief Counselor MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: • A High School Diploma and some experience working in a mental health or related field • Preference will be given to those with experience providing direct treatment services in a residential setting • Clearance with all relevant background checks as per TSA policies and governing regulations • Must have a valid NYS Driver’s License and a driving record acceptable to the TSA Automotive Vehicle Program • Computer experience desirable PERSONAL REQUIREMENTS: • Be understanding of the needs of sensitive populations and demonstrate empathy • Have schedule flexibility to be available for shift coverage opportunities • Possess well-developed professional boundaries and high ethical standards • Demonstrate excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills • Possess crisis management and problem-solving skills • Have an ability to function as a member of team member and work independently SCOPE: Assist in the operations of an OMH licensed community residence. The Relief Counselor reports to the Program Director and Program Supervisor of the residence they are assigned to. JOB DESCRIPTION: The Relief Counselor will have a broad range of duties including, but not limited to, the following: • Supervise the residents’ daily activities and service plans • Contribute to a safe and supportive therapeutic environment • Utilize techniques of therapeutic crisis intervention as needed • Adhere to and guide residents on all structural program expectations including house rules and daily routines • Function as positive role model for residents • Maintain appropriate boundaries with residents • Communicate effectively and professionally with residents, residents’ families, and collateral agencies • Document any and all significant events and fulfill all general record keeping responsibilities • Perform certain aspects of house maintenance, which may include housekeeping, heavy lifting and other physical exertion as required • Transport residents as needed • Additional duties as assigned by Program Director or Program Supervisor
