   PROGRAM: Edgewood JOB TITLE: Counselor II QUALIFICATIONS: • An Associate’s Degree and at least 1 year of experience working in a mental health or related field; other combinations of education and experience will be considered • Clearance with all relevant background checks as per TSA policies and governing regulations • A vehicle, valid NY State Driver's License and a driving record acceptable to the TSA automotive program are required • Proficient in MS Office Suite and able to learn new data platforms PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: • Familiarity with Trauma Informed Care • Experience providing direct treatment services in a residential setting • Familiarity with New York State Office of Mental Health (OMH) regulations and guidelines PERSONAL REQUIREMENTS: • Be understanding of the needs of sensitive populations and demonstrate empathy • Have well-developed professional boundaries and high ethical standards • Demonstrate excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills • Possess strong crisis management and problem-solving skills • Have an ability to function as a member of team member and work independently SCOPE: Assisting in the operations of an OMH licensed community residence. The Counselor II reports to the Program Supervisor and Program Director. JOB DESCRIPTION: The Counselor II will have a broad range of duties including, but not limited to, the following: • Supervise the residents’ daily activities and service plans • Ensure program plans for residents are carried out as designed • Participate in the coordination of Food Stamp applications and collection • Contribute to a safe and supportive therapeutic environment • Utilize techniques of therapeutic crisis intervention as needed • Adhere to and guide residents on all structural program expectations including house rules and daily routines • Function as positive role model for residents • Maintain appropriate boundaries with residents • Communicate effectively and professionally with residents, residents’ families, and collateral agencies; advocate for the residents • Document any and all significant events and fulfill all general record keeping responsibilities • Assist with petty cash management • Perform certain aspects of house maintenance, which may include housekeeping, heavy lifting and other physical exertion as required, grocery shopping, and ordering program supplies • Assist in the training of relief staff and participate in training activates for residents • Attend agency meetings, mandatory trainings and other activities including opportunities for professional development at the request of the Program Director or Agency • Transport residents as needed • Carry on-call responsibilities as assigned • Additional duties as assigned by Program Director or Program Supervisor
