   Coordinate health services for Head Start Families
Complete Description of the Job.
   SUMMARY This position is responsible for provision of direct health services (Medical, Dental, and Child Safety) to center-based children and their families enrolled in Head Start/Early Head Start. This position plays an important part in supporting the health and safety goals of the program. Health and safety are an integral part of the larger system of services provided by Head Start. RESPONSIBILITIES Provides comprehensive health services to center-based families encompassing medical and dental services, which includes: •Assisting parents to be linked with a medical home and assuring participation in well-child checks according to established EPSDT schedule. •Completing required health screenings within mandated 45/90 day deadlines. •Ensuring that treatment and follow up on health /dental needs is completed in a timely manner. •Tracking the provision of health services for the children on their assigned caseloads. Promotes preventive health services which includes: •Ensuring that families have health insurance coverage and an ongoing source of continuous, accessible health and dental care. •Maintaining inventory of first aid supplies •Working with Health and Nutrition Manager to ensure facilities and equipment promotes a safe and healthy environment. •Conducting nutrition assessments with parents and provide follow up as necessary. Informs families of community services and resources to include: •Assisting in updating comprehensive resource files. •Distributing Health Facts to all families and participate in any development of written material to further support parents/families in achieving health, medical, dental and child safety goals. •Making periodic home visits to pregnant mothers and newborns to ensure the well- being of both the mother and the child per performance standards. Works as a member of the Head Start team by: •Contributing to the positive public relations of the program. •Maintaining accurate and up to date records on children and families as deemed necessary for meeting program objectives. •Supporting families without access to transportation by providing transportation services or arranging transportation through other options to enrolled children and families for appointments related to health and dental. •Encouraging parent involvement/participation in all facets of the program. •Meeting with Region Manager for supervision; meeting with Health Services Manager for training and technical assistance. •Adhering to all program policies. •Completing all other duties as assigned by supervisor. REQUIREMENTS •High School Diploma/GED and 2 years’ experience in a health related field preferred or 2 years in support/service role serving parents and families. •Experience working with low income families desired. •Must be willing and able to obtain and maintain basic first aid and CPR certification. •Required to be MAT trained and certified to pass medications as needed. •Back-up support to classroom staff when assigned by supervisor only. •Experience or knowledge of family strengths/family centered practice preferred. . Knowledge of health and wellness principles. •Must be familiar with the operation and maintenance of basic instruments and equipment used in patient care (e.g. items commonly found in a first aid kit). Experience in a medical office setting preferred. •Strong organizational and communication skills (verbal and written), ability to work independently, good interpersonal skills and ability to maintain a positive attitude with staff and customers. Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple tasks and exercise good judgment. •Data entry and basic computer skills are required. •Must possess a vehicle and have a valid driver’s license.
